I am a competitor on the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail and want to share some information about this great organization.
The Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail is a nonprofit, nondenominational ministry whose mission is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to fishermen and their families through competitive and professionally run fishing tournaments.
What began in 1998 as a small four division tournament trail with a total of 21 events through the first season has now grown into one of the largest fishing tournament organizations in the country. There are 48 team tournament divisions and 32 legacy divisions combined for a total of 315 tournament events. The legacy division is an adult and youth team fishing a shorter day to accommodate younger children.
An average tournament for me consist of the following: On Friday my partner and I spend the day practicing and sore mouthing our fish, lol. Then we head to the meeting. The meetings are usually held at a nearby church. At the meeting we sit down, break bread, and fellowship with other anglers. Telling tall tales and/ or prodding for information. Most meals are made by members of the congregation, they are tasty, and even come with desert. To tell the truth, I often get seconds and thirds. After the meal we are entertained by hearing God’s word, music, or given testimonials. The door prizes are next. Prizes range from fishing rods to tackle packs. I am always surprised at how many door prizes are given away. Yet I am still waiting on my turn to win a rod, maybe next time. At the end of the meeting we are given blast off numbers and updated on the regulations.
The next morning we meet at the ramps, unload, and await blast off. When we reach our first fishing hole I often think about the previous nights message. It’s hard not to think about God when you are on the water first thing in the morning, seeing his creation come alive. That is probably one of the reasons I picked the header for our website. It is one of the few times in my life where all feels right. God’s presence is readily known and you feel the peace that comes with it.
So to me the Fishers of Men is much more than just another tournament trail. I hope you will consider trying out the trail and what the organization has to offer.
