When the bite is tuff and the fish are suspended try the Float n Fly. It is well known for a cold water techique but it will work any time the fish are suspended. This is a goto bait for the old timers, old timers meaning older than me with alot of knowledge and knows how to catch them when no one else can. Their gear usually consist of a long 8-12 foot limber rod.
Taking the Float n Fly technique to a new level. Lets talk about the gear. Use a 7 ft. drop stot rod with a spinning reel spooled 10-12 lbs fulrocarbon, if you prefer you can use a bait casting set up. You will also need a slip bobber and bobber stopper. Next choose the jig or fly of your choice.
Lets talk about the bobber for a little bit. Any slip bobber will work I prefer to use one made out of balsa wood. When choosing the right bobber you need to make sure the hole is big enough for the line to slip through smoothly.
A different way to rig the Float n Fly. I like to rig a drop shot up and put a float on top, I will also use a jig head with a 90 deg. line tie with a Slash Shad from Ghost Baits.
When you find the fish susspended you can use this technique any time of the year. Let your imagination go when it comes to the bait you tie on with this rig.
